Matt's Last Day

Matt finished strong at 5:55pm. He was pleased to finish before dark.

His kids jumped for joy as he approached.

After a huge meal at a Chinese buffet, and prayers with the kids, he went right to sleep.

Here is a picture of him poling within sight of the end and a few of the sights on and around the river.

We'll have more information for you tomorrow.

Congratulations Matt!

Hey Bishop,
You are becoming a local celebrity! My sister found this article about you so I thought I would share it here.

From the Shreveport Times:
"NSU Professor Makes Props for 'Year One'"

NATCHITOCHES — Matt DeFord, Northwestern State University sculptor and assistant art professor, has created ceramic props resembling centuries-old relics for a big-budget movie being produced in Shreveport.

"It is a Harold Ramis film starring Jack Black called 'Year One,'" DeFord said.

According to DeFord, "Year One" is a comedy/adventure about two men in a Biblical civilization. The props he created are a reflection of that culture.

"They are supposed to be Mesopotamian deities that will be in a vendor's stall at a marketplace in Sodom," DeFord said. "I made 50 of them with the help of (Cheneyville graduate student) Amanda Roe. They are made of clay. I'll fire them and add a stain and fire them again."

DeFord became involved with the project when he was recommended by Sheila Richmond, of the Louisiana Folklife Center.
